Edith M. Johnson

August 9, 2012

Edith Johnson passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012.  Edith had a strong faith in God, and is resting comfortably in Heaven.

Edith Marie was born to Homer and Edith (Largent) Reece in Chanute, Kansas on December 7, 1926.  She married William “Bill” Spratt in 1947, and together they had two children, Pamela and Philip.  Following Bill’s death in 1971, Edith married Alfred Johnson in 1974.  They enjoyed 29 years together, until Al’s passing in 2003.

Edie was an accomplished seamstress, making drapes for her homes, and clothes for herself and Pam, including Pam’s wedding dress.  She was a fan of Public Radio and classical music, and WUEC was her constant companion during the last 8 months of her life.  She always had a piano or organ in her home, and loved to play and sing with her beautiful soprano voice.  She loved to golf and was proud of her two holes in one; and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.   She was proficient on the computer, and for several years produced the year book for her golf league.  Edie looked forward to Saturday breakfasts with Pam, Jill, and friends.

Edie is survived by sister Martha (EM) Fulton; children Pamela Lee, Philip (Marci) Spratt, Kay (Roger) Johnson,  and Alan (Gail) Johnson; grandchildren Cheree (James) McGlade,  Jeni (Chris) Garner, Greg (Krista) Johnson, Kim Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Tabitha Gray, Chris (Kristen) Gray, John (Jenny) Lee, and Kristin (John) Fahrendorf;  16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and special friends.

She was preceded in death by siblings Mike Reece, Walter Reece, Hester Tier, Hazel Ingraham, and Jean Medley; her husbands, parents, son-in-law, and many special friends and family members.

Condolences

  • Kris Fox Edie's family-I am so sad to hear of her passing but I am sure she and my mom are having a great golf game in heaven. She was one of my mom's golf buddies-Evie Berg. I missed seeing this because I moved to Chippewa and haven't been getting the paper, but ran into another golf friend of mom's and she told me. Edie was always a great friend to my mom, and treated me special. I will miss her!
