Charles "Dave" Bugher

Charles "Dave" Bugher

August 15, 2012

Charles "David" Bugher was born to Anne Marie (Jacquin) and Charles A. Bugher on June 10, 1922, in Sheldon Wisconsin.  At an early age he moved with his family to Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  After finishing high school he attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison.  After college he served in the military as a navigator in the USAF from 1942 until 1944.   He served his duty in the Pacific Theater.  This is where he met his good friend B.J. Farmer who served as a pilot.  After the war, Dave and BJ became lifelong partners in the real estate business.  They watched each other's backs through-out their partnership just as they did during the war.

In 1947 he married Virginia Regan and had three children. He is survived by these children: Mark D. Bugher (Kathryn), Larry A. Bugher (Patricia), and Patricia Bugher Allen (James). He also is survived by 7 grandchildren: Andy and Tony Bugher, John and Sarah Bugher, and Kelli (Allen) Von Haden, Erika (Allen) Stevens, Carrie (Allen) Gillett.  He also had been blessed with seven beautiful great- grandchildren.  Dave taught his children the value of an education and responsibility to our country.  He shared the woods and the water with them.  Each of them developed a love of the outdoors which will carry on for generations.  His love for them was constant.  He will be greatly missed by each of them.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn who he married February 18, 1989.  He will be greatly missed by her and her four children:  Angela Jeffrey (Kurt), Marty Tauger (Nicole), Terry Tauger, and Christopher Tauger (Mary).  Five of Carolyn's grandchildren were also survived by "PaPa Dave":  Zachary Jeffrey, Morgan and Brady Tauger, and Madison and McKenna Tauger.  Dave was always kind and gentle and had a great impact on Carolyn's children.  Dave shared his love of Bayfield, Lake Superior, and Colorado with Carolyn and her children bringing to them a magical new life they would not have had without him.

Dave was preceded in death by his Mother and Father and his sister Nell Kaiser (John).

Dave made such a difference in this world. He helped Eau Claire grow into the city that it is today.  Along with BJ Farmer he developed many areas in the city such as The Stein Farm area which is where Shopko Plaza is located today. They developed Tamarack, which is the first condominium to be built in the city. The Eau Claire area is scattered with communities that Dave developed such as Timbercreek, Parkside Circle, The Woodlands, and Whitetail Dr. His efforts as a developer will be felt for years to come by the people living in these communities. Dave dedicated himself to the Eau Claire Board of Realtors serving as president of the local board for two years and a director for more than 20 years.  He also had the honor of serving as president of the Wisconsin Realtors Association.

Dave spent hours serving on the Transportation Projects Committee and was influential in developing the Highway 53 bypass.

The YMCA was close to Dave's heart.  He strongly believed in it and was heavily involved serving as president of the YMCA for three years.

A private memorial will be held placing Dave's ashes on the waters of Lake Superior by his family.  He will rest at the place he loved most.

A celebration of Dave's life will be held Wednesday August 22, 2012, from 3-6 p.m. at the Eau Claire Golf & Country Club, 828 Clubview Lane, Altoona.  Any contributions that wish to be made would be greatly appreciated by the YMCA.

  • Steve Gunderson To Mark and all the family:

My sincere sympathy and friendship in this time of your loss. For you, David was the anchor of the family. For many of us, he was a friend. For me, he was also a mentor. At the beginning of my political career, he helped me understand the issues related to real estate; he served as a voice of counsel and encouragement; he reached out and asked others to support my campaigns. I am a better, smarter and more successful person today because Dave Bugher took the time to invest his energy and capital in one of his son's friends. What a gift.
