Christopher M. Iannone

Christopher M. Iannone

October 30, 2011

Christopher Michael Iannone, 39, of Eau Claire, completed his journey here on Earth on Sunday, October 30, 2011, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.

He was born on April 22, 1972, in Oak Park, IL, the son of Anthony Iannone and Mary Ann Iannone-Smith.  Chris graduated from Chippewa Falls Senior High School in 1990.

During his younger years, Chris worked with his mother at Mary Ann’s Root Beer & More.  He also worked for the Chippewa Valley YMCA and Prange Way in Chippewa Falls.  Chris was the C.O.O. at Northwest International Trucks and later worked as office manager at Lydia’s Lighting & Furniture in Eau Claire.

He was well known for his ability to make others laugh and his infectious smile. Among his many interests were entertaining, gardening in his yard, boating on the river, and swimming.   Chris was an avid movie watcher with Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory being his favorite.

Chris was a devoted and active member of his church, Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Eau Claire.  He was one of the original founders of the LBGT Chippewa Valley Community Center.  Chris was an inspirational community volunteer for various organizations including the Community Table, Beacon House, Feed My People, Chippewa Valley Pride, and many others.

Christopher is survived by his father, Anthony (Carolyn) Iannone of Plainfield, IL; his mother, Mary Ann (Bud) Smith of Chippewa Falls, WI; his partner, Thomas Murphy of Eau Claire; two sisters, Connie Iannone of Chippewa Falls, and Carrie (Tim) Leis of Chippewa Falls; his niece, Elizabeth Leis, and nephew, Matthew Leis of Chippewa Falls; his Godmother, Carla (Mike) Krage of Bloomingdale, IL; and by many aunts, uncles, cousins and stepsiblings.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Anthony and Victoria Iannone; maternal grandparents, John and Theresa Fredrick; a very special great aunt, Virginia “GeeGee” Pouska; two aunts, Theresa Bischoff and Corinne Musilami; an uncle, John Fredrick II; and his Godfather, Gordon “Ole” Olson.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Eau Claire. Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Friday, November 4, at Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 421 S. Farwell Ave., Eau Claire.

Chris’s family cannot express enough gratitude to all of his “medical family” in Rochester who lovingly cared for him throughout his journey with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. His journey without them would be unimaginable.

Memorials can be made to Unitarian Universalist Congregation, The Community Table 320 Putnam St. #2, Eau Claire, WI 54703, or The Gift of Life Transplant House 705 2nd St., Rochester, MN 55902-2986.

The family asks you to please show respect for those with allergies by refraining from the use of all fragrances (perfume, cologne, after shave, body spray or scented lotions, etc). Thank you for your understanding.

Chris will forever remain in my heart along with you Mary Ann. Together you taught me that it does matter to find five minutes when it seems I don't have even one. I hope my children will look up to me with gratitude and pride as Chris did to you. My nursing career will always include the relationship I built with you both.

  • Gary Hollander Our agency as a whole and I personally grew to love and respect what a fine and steady man Chris was over our decade of work together. A few years ago we tried to woo him to Milwaukee, but he refused because of his commitments to his home community -- he called it the "work he had not finished." I will miss him terribly as a colleague in arms and a man of great depth.

  • Mark Quam When one mentions the name Chris, so many things come to mind. Caring, giving, creative, friendly, energetic, loving, funny and the list goes on and on. You brought a special presence to everyone's life whom you touched Chris. You will be greatly missed. However, I do know one thing and that is that your enthusiasm for life was hard to ignore. Although you have moved on, your energy and your spirit is still present in the many lives that you touched Chris. My sympathy goes out to the family of Chris and a special heart felt sympathy to Tom. May the spirit of Chris be with everyone during this time of change and adjustment. I feel better about life knowing that I had a chance to know Chris.
